Prioritize Your Pleasure

The Self-Love Checklist

Love is in the air this month! Regardless of how you feel about this romantic holiday, if you have a tendency to take care of everyone else before yourself, you might be reading this feeling persistently zapped and depleted. If that feels true, I invite you to make this Valentine’s Day an opportunity to prioritize your pleasure.

Every day of the year, but most of all Valentine’s Day, it’s crucial to take care of the most important person in your life: YOU. Why?

“Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.” – Eleanor Brownn

Meaning –  if you want to keep supporting people in your life – let’s talk about how you can care, love and respect yourself this Valentine’s Day and beyond!

Self-love checklist

  • Remind yourself: self-care practices fall on a spectrum and there’s no “right” way to “do” self-care. Any activity that helps you to feel replenished and rejuvenated is the intention.

  • Review the list of self-care activities below. Add any tried and true strategies that might be missing.

  • Commit to implementing at least one activity on Valentine’s Day or any day you’re in need of some TLC.

  • Schedule in the activity as you would any other high priority item in your calendar. Fiercely protect this time, knowing self-care is the foundation to your well-being.

  • Repeat: I am worthy of love, care and nourishment – just as I am.

Self-love activity list

  • Have a self-date: re-read a favourite book, visit a museum or gallery, take yourself to the movies or a comedy show

  • Buy yourself some fresh flowers

  • Curl up with a blanket and have a Netflix movie marathon

  • Soak in a relaxing Epsom salt bath

  • Turn on your favourite tunes

  • Spend time in nature – without your phone

  • Stretch out your stress in a yoga class

  • Sip a special drink – hot chocolate, hot toddy or your favourite tea

  • Treat yourself to a massage or spa treatment

  • Have your favourite meal delivered to your door

Whether you’re seasoned in self-care or brand new to the practice, my hope is that this checklist will be a resource for you to revisit when you feel burnt out, resentful or unwell.

This Valentine’s Day, fill up your self-care cup first. You might be surprised that after you feel more grounded and energized, how love spills over the brim to those around you. I choo-choo-choose-me!
