Aronia Berry

The Unknown Superfood

Aronia, known for its premium health beverage, Aronia Juice, was the big winner in the Product of the Year Canada 2014 Awards. Aronia walked away with a whopping four awards in the competition. They won for Natural Health, Healthy Beverage, Fruit Base Blends & Beverage Packaging.

Over the last couple of years, consumers have become more and more educated about nutrition. They understand that antioxidants help fight off the free radicals that are all over. They are in the air, in our food, and we are not able to avoid them. So first it was Acai, but now it’s Aronia Berry that has become the new antioxidant superfood.

“People are more and more looking for natural healthy alternatives when it comes to food for their body,” commented Rado Miljkovich, President, Golijska Aronia. “

Aronia berries jumpstart your immune system and rid your body of harmful toxins while giving your body a healthy balance. According to the USDA, Aronia berries have twice as much antioxidant power as cranberries and four times as much as pomegranates, strawberries, goji berries, and blueberries.

Aronia Berry plant (melanocarpa) is native to eastern North America, even though Europe also has a successfully naturalized species of the plant. Aronia berries are a rich source of antioxidants and vitamin C. They can be eaten fresh when ripe, when the flavour is sweet, although the astringent pucker explains the origin of the colloquial name, chokeberry.

Aronia is a food, not a drug. Most people begin consuming one or two ounces of Aronia berry daily for a period of one to three months and they drastically improve their health. Unlike other similar products which are usually mixed into other products, or in powdered supplement form, Aronia is available in a natural form at a much cheaper cost than a lot of these other products. From kids to adults, anyone can use them.  It’s a food, like elderberries. It can be used to make wine, jam, syrups, and tea. Aronia is easily integrated into smoothies, baked goods, toppings, breakfast cereal and many other treats. So it’s a food that is not only cheap but can be used in a variety of ways and it’s good for your body. For the uninitiated,  I recommend starting as I did: take one ounce of Aronia juice and a pinch of Himalayan salt diluted in a glass of water every night before bedtime.

Aronia is currently sold at the Big Carrot , Ambrosia food store, Organic Garage, McEwan Supermarket etc. or you can purchase it online by visiting:  www.aroniaberryinc.ca
