Tonic Magazine's OmT.O. Festival

Toronto's Best Outdoor Yoga Event Gets Bigger

What are you doing on Saturday June 21st? If you’re smart, fun, funky and ‘Toronto Proud’ you’ll be joining me for a full day of free outdoor yoga at the Historic Distillery District. OmT.O. is an outdoor yoga celebration of the longest day of the year. Yoga enthusiasts from across the GTA will come to Trinity Street to take any or all of eight free, specially themed, 40 minute yoga classes taught by the most popular and dynamic instructors from the top yoga studios in the city. The best studios in the GTA are participating: Moksha Yoga, Downward Dog, Yoga Tree, 889, Yoga Sanctuary, Bikram Yoga Centre, Soghrati Yoga and co-presenter Spynga (see page 31 in the June issue for the schedule).

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced yogi, you’ll be sure to enjoy these uplifting energetic classes. Or you can just come and enjoy this fantastic urban venue on a summer weekend. Inspired by NYC’s Mind over Madness event, where thousands gather to practice yoga on June 21 in Times Square, OmT.O. was created to bring people from all walks of life together with Toronto's best yoga teachers to celebrate strength of body, mind and community.

Last year, 1,000 people got onto their yoga mats and participated in our inaugural event. This year, we hope to double that number and bring yoga to the masses. “It’s wonderful to see yoga enthusiasts with different skill levels come together to share a truly unique community experience.” says Casey Soer, co-creator of OmT.O. and co-founder of Spynga Inc., a participating studio.
The long, harsh winter we experienced will make this event even more invigorating. I’m excited to welcome new yoga partners and sponsors this year, and I hope to continue to grow this yogathon and make it a Toronto summer staple.

We have a new Co-presenting Sponsor Healthy Planet; one of the best–known brands in health foods, supplements, sports nutrition and beauty care category in Toronto.  From a small kiosk in a strip mall on Danforth Ave. to what Healthy Planet is now, a chain of stores across the GTA, a few things have remained the same; the selection, meeting the constant needs of their customers, adapting to changes, providing exceptional customer service, and above all, their commitment to providing the lowest prices to their customers. Healthy Planet will have a booth at OmT.O. where you can sample and purchase the best products in the market.

Senior Sponsor Global Botanical has been associated with Tonic Magazine for years. Joel Thuna and Claude Gallant share their insight into health and wellness every month in the Preventative Medicine column (see page 26). Global Botanical is Canada’s leading manufacturer of Natural Health Supplements. Family owned and operated, they develop and manufacture all their products in Barrie, Ontario under the Pure-lē Natural Brand.  Their factory and products are Kosher, GMP, Vegan and Hypoallergenic in many cases.  They strive to manufacture innovative gluten-free products that are easy to use, taste good, and are effective:

Raw Whole Food Proteins:  A line of great tasting vegan proteins made from whole food protein sources providing naturally occurring fibre, vitamins, minerals, Omega EFA, Medium Chain Triglycerides and antioxidants, ideal for exercise and weight management.
Liquid Greens: A line of greens products. The only line of soluble, grit-free good-tasting greens. Available unflavoured, mint and dark chocolate. Liquid Greens can easily be mixed with water to provide a sustained natural boost while you are jogging or exercising.
Fiberrific: A line of five taste-free soluble fibre products. Fiberrific offers a gentler, easier way to get all of your daily fibre requirements.
Active Sublingual Vitamin B12: The Vitamin B12 that actually tastes good and provides rapid energy.
Guaranteed Potency Oregano: Available in traditional drops and Organicap Capsules. They are the strongest and most effective oregano products available.
Vegan Hypoallergenic Multivitamins:  A full line of vitamins that are suitable for everyone, regardless of dietary concerns.  They are free of fillers and coatings (they contain allergens).  The tablets and capsules are significantly smaller than traditional vitamins and easier to take.
Hot Flash Fix:  A soy-free vegan and hypoallergenic solution that both prevents and relieves hot flashes fast.

Also joining us this year is beverage sponsor Wh2ole Water 114. Experts in the field of water purification, they’ll be presenting on their process and sampling their superior water throughout the day at OmT.O.  I’d also like to welcome Whole Foods, Kashi and Larabar to the OmT.O. family. If you’re peckish from bending and twisting in the sunshine, be sure to sample their healthy, wholesome products. We also have a group of artisans selling their yoga-related goods, clothing and jewelry. There are natural foods and supplements and so much more. Please be sure to join us for this fantastic event.
